On January 3rd, 2014, I will be going on a missions trip to Ndu, Cameroon with a group of people from my church, Bethany Baptist. I'm really excited to have this opportunity to serve others and to be a part of what God is doing in that part of the world. For those of you that don't know me very well, I have a loving wife, Michelle, and 2 awesome kids, Camryn and Bowen....whom I will be leaving behind for this 18 day trip. Please pray that the kids won't terrorize my wife too much while I am gone, and pray that Michelle will be able to handle their never-ending needs on her own. I love you Michelle and thank you so much for supporting me and encouraging me to take this trip. She's the best, and she already has had to endure me being gone for 6 months a couple of years ago....but that's a whole other story.
During my time in Ndu, at the Baptist Seminary, I have been told of a few areas that I will be able to help out in. There are plenty of needs in the school there, as well as the hospital, and also helping out with the construction of the surrounding buildings. There is no shortage of serving opportunities so I'm sure I will be busy.
Over the next four months I am trying to raise the $3500 (plus vaccination costs, around $900) that it will cost for me to go on this trip. The money will pay for the plane ticket as well as food and lodging at the seminary. Also, if anyone reading this blog has anything they are willing to donate that they would like me to take along to give to the students there, please let me know. I will get more details on the items that are in need that I could bring along. Our pastor, Stef Piva, who has been to Ndu before, gave an example of something that someone donated in the past. One of the team members talked to their dentist and they donated tons of toothbrushes and toothpaste.
I am hoping to be able to update this blog with pictures while I am away so that you will be able to see some of my experience. If I am not able to, while I am away, I will post the pictures when I return.
If you are interested in contributing there are a couple of ways that you can do so. There is a 'donate' button below that you can click on and send money through to my Paypal account or you can write a cheque, made payable to Bethany Baptist Church, with my name in the memo, which you can mail to me or the church. With each donation of $20 or more, you will be sent a donation receipt for tax purposes from the church.
Besides the financial support, there is another way that you can support me, and that is through your prayers. I would appreciate any and all prayers from you while I am preparing for this trip and while I will be away. Prayer for the ability for me to do God's work in whatever way possible. All of these plans are for His purpose and I am encouraged by this opportunity. Please pray that I can lend help in as many places as needed. As well as prayer for my family.
